Scale-1 Portal presents MoveR at CES 2019

Scale-1 Portal is presenting MoveR, a mixed reality solution for vestibular rehabilitation, at CES 2019 in Las Vegas on 8 January.

MoveR is an application for healthcare professionals, dedicated to treating dizziness and balance disorders. It offers an immersive experience with no cumbersome headset, no worn sensor and no cables: the patient is carried into scenarios that the practitioner controls live. The project was developed with Thierry Guillot, a physiotherapist specialising in vestibular rehabilitation.

Two experiences, one pair of 3D glasses

Both experiences immerse the patient in a virtual environment through a simple pair of 3D glasses. A touchscreen with a clear interface lets the practitioner adapt the scenarios to the patient, in real time.

Aimed in particular at reducing visual dependence in balance system disorders, they generate a sensory conflict that calls more heavily on somesthesia and on the vestibular system. One of the two also prompts the patient to move in response to the practitioner's choices — grasping virtual objects, avoiding obstacles on a scrolling course.

Hardware that fits into an existing room

The installation uses the walls and ceilings already in place, without monopolising dedicated floor space. It has been deployed at the Pôle Vertiges et Équilibre practice near Paris since 13 November 2018, for its certification phase. More than thirty people have been able to try it, among them Clotilde Ballbe, a specialist in balance system disorders.
