Cling: events in virtual reality

It started as an idea, during one of the team's first remote catch-ups in the early days of lockdown: why hold these meetings on ordinary video calls, when this is precisely what we do for a living?

A few days and a few thousand lines later, Cling existed. We held our first meeting inside it. Here is how that went.

Some of us joined from an Oculus Quest headset, others from their PC. What struck us straight away was how much more participatory the conversation became. Stepping out of "webcam mode", unpleasant for everybody involved, we found another way of communicating at a distance.

We are not the first to try the exercise. But we bring our entertainment experience to it, so that a professional meeting still feels like time well spent together.

Encouraged by that, we are building Cling out properly: events that mix entertainment with a more serious purpose. An agile team stand-up, an internal announcement, a team-building session. For the canapés, admittedly, we have no solution yet — although.
